Movie Reviews
Rewatching Spectre... It's such a waste of potential. Stellar cast, with Christoph Waltz, Andrew Scott, and Dave Bautista as a great group of villains.

It has some fantastic scenes in it, the whole opening sequence in Mexico City is one of my favourite Bond openers.

But man, the love story, the connection between Waltz and Bond, connection between Waltz and past villains, and huge plot holes especially towards the end, really ruin it. There are definitely elements of a great movie, but it just didn't execute well.

Personally I thought Spectre wasn't as bad as people made it out to be and that Skyfall wasn't as good as people made it out to be.  To me Casino Royale was great the rest of the Craig Bonds were just kind of meh.

Spectre wasn't very good. They made a terrible waste of Waltz, who has the chops to be a great villain but lacked the material.

I didn't mind Passengers. It was more of a love story and a little slower than I anticipated but, overall, I can't complain too much about it.

The first half of Spectre is very very good. Up there with some of the best Bond films. I just think the second half has too many flaws, too many things seemed rushed/forced.

Casino Royale is my favourite Bond film. I think the Daniel Craig movies do a great job of giving Bond far more depth than past movies. Demonstrates a deeper relationship with M, emotional scarring from Vesper, more info on his upbringing, etc. But aside from Casino Royale, the others have some noticeable flaws.

Agreed, the first half of Spectre was fantastic. I had such high expectations for that film and was so so disappointed. Waltz wasn't as menacing as I would have liked. Bautista was classic. Loved him. Casino Royale is also my favourite bond film, perhaps along with from Russia with love.

I finally saw Rogue one. I quite enjoyed it. Really did a great job creating the star wars universe, connecting the dots to Episode IV, and the direction and pacing were great. A couple of annoying plot holes but nothing is perfect. Really good film.

I watched The Boss last nite. Pretty funny.

Also began watching Batman vs Superman & couldn't make it through. Jesse Eisenberg ruined it.

Tropic Thunder on the telly, never gets old. Cruise gets a lifetime pass for being insane for his work in that movie. And Downey Jr is just hilarious. Given the recent Oscar dialogue on race and general PC bonanza can you imagine the retrospective vitriol had he actually won when he was nominated. It's crazy to think he was actually nominated given the general criteria of being boring, erudite and depressing.

Would be great to see Reynolds get a nod for Deadpool this year as well but doubtful.

Yeah, it won't happen.

Went to go see Passengers and enjoyed the first third of the movie but found the rest, especially the final 20 minutes, pretty bad. Would not recommend.

Werner Herzog's new film Into The Inferno is on Netflix now and I'd recommend checking it out. There's some incredible footage in it. Here's the trailer:

Watched Patriots Day.

It was alright. The standard based on a true story film injected with Hollywood-ness.

I was shocked to find how accurate much of the movie was. There was one point I thought was a complete overdramatization. I googled the reality of that scene and it was pretty accurate. I did not remember how armed the brothers were.

The end montage had me tearing up at one point at well.

Haven't seen it yet but I did watch Deepwater Horizon last night and feel like the styles of both movies are very similar. An easy way to be entertained for 100 minutes but ultimately forgettable.

The night prior I re-watched Boogie Nights. Still great. But now it feels like I'm going down a Marky Mark rabbit hole...

I did not like deepwater horizon. I shut off like an hour in and have not made any attempt to finish it.

But you are right. There are quite a few similarities in how the two stories are told. I would say Patriots Day is better, though.

I'll have to give it a watch. It's not that I think those movies are good but there's just something about being able to shut your brain off for a little bit and veg out to some action every now and then.

I wouldn't bother finishing Deepwater Horizon. If you're expecting a plot twist or deep social commentary you've come to the wrong place. But you probably already knew that lol.
