It's past midnight in every time zone but Pacific, so I figure I can post this now.
Today marks the one-year anniversary of Roughing After The Whistle.
I want to give a huge thank you to all the members who embraced this new project and made the move from Sportsnet. Needless to say, without all of you, this never would have gotten off the ground.
When I created RATW, I was expecting a small community of maybe 50 people - maybe 100 eventually, at most. I did not expect it to become essentially the new home of the Sportsnet forums. Hell, I didn't even have a name for it at first.
Instead, we have the same diverse, passionate, knowledgeable community we had at Sportsnet, with some members unfortunately missing. I hope one day they find their way over here.
We all owe a huge debt to shadylane for his never-ending work on this new site. Without him, this site would not exist, and we would still be dealing with NSFW ads at the site that shall not be named. shady worked hard on this for months, and he did it mostly by himself. He is still working on the site now, making little tweaks to design and functionality as needed.
Our membership numbers have not surprisingly taken a bit of a hit with the move. Some members haven't found their way over yet, and some of the members at the old site were spammers. Hopefully we will find ways to continue to add new members through advertising and word of mouth. My goal is to have every NHL fan base represented one day.
Last, but CERTAINLY not least, a huge thank you to our moderators. Most of them had never moderated before, but stepped forward to keep our community going. Sometimes people need to be reminded of that. These people are all volunteering to make this a better place. They aren't always perfect, but they try to be. It's a great, diverse, thoughtful group and it usually isn't hard for them to come to a consensus. Bravo.
In closing, may there be many more anniversaries.
