RATW's one-year anniversary
#1

It's past midnight in every time zone but Pacific, so I figure I can post this now. Wink

Today marks the one-year anniversary of Roughing After The Whistle.

I want to give a huge thank you to all the members who embraced this new project and made the move from Sportsnet. Needless to say, without all of you, this never would have gotten off the ground.

When I created RATW, I was expecting a small community of maybe 50 people - maybe 100 eventually, at most. I did not expect it to become essentially the new home of the Sportsnet forums. Hell, I didn't even have a name for it at first.

Instead, we have the same diverse, passionate, knowledgeable community we had at Sportsnet, with some members unfortunately missing. I hope one day they find their way over here.

We all owe a huge debt to shadylane for his never-ending work on this new site. Without him, this site would not exist, and we would still be dealing with NSFW ads at the site that shall not be named. shady worked hard on this for months, and he did it mostly by himself. He is still working on the site now, making little tweaks to design and functionality as needed.

Our membership numbers have not surprisingly taken a bit of a hit with the move. Some members haven't found their way over yet, and some of the members at the old site were spammers. Hopefully we will find ways to continue to add new members through advertising and word of mouth. My goal is to have every NHL fan base represented one day.

Last, but CERTAINLY not least, a huge thank you to our moderators. Most of them had never moderated before, but stepped forward to keep our community going. Sometimes people need to be reminded of that. These people are all volunteering to make this a better place. They aren't always perfect, but they try to be. It's a great, diverse, thoughtful group and it usually isn't hard for them to come to a consensus. Bravo.

In closing, may there be many more anniversaries. Happy

Great job by all those that worked (and work) to allow us this forum and for those that post and make it our community.

I remember when you ventured off and made these forums lewis, because I was one of the first 20 or 30 who joined.

I think the biggest reason why so many Sportsnet posters ventured over is because you're such a respected poster and person, lewis. I don't think there are many other posters who could have commanded the following that you got.

An astounding achievement, first of all by Lewis, and then Shadylane, and then every one of us.

Except Ulu.
He smells.

First of all shady. We'd still be dealing with porn ads at freeforums if not for him.

Pretty impressed with this community and the fact that many from SNET came over here. It took me like 8-10 months to find this forum and it was totally by chance.

Great job putting it together!

What's also nice is that I don't feel like I have to watch what I say here at all like on SNET. It's funny there's way less "trolling" that goes on as a result of this. Pretty interesting. I guess that's what happens when you get rid of the corporate feel.

It was a former SNET poster that I was talking to on HF boards. I can't remember his name, yellow submarine? something like that.

He told me about this place, and it was nice because I was really pissed after SNET died without any notice whatsoever.

I tried hard to lure as many from SN to here before SN collapsed, but not everyone got the hints. At then end, they weren't even hints..

When SN actually collapsed, I should have contacted LA and asked him for the forum's email address list, or not even to give it to me, but perhaps ask him to send out one last email to the entire membership to say farewell and to mention RATW in the email. Pretty sure he wouldn't have done it, and Rogers would have rejected the idea as well, but who knows..

Man, I never got ANY hint! hahah maybe I'm a little slow??

LA was a hard guy to deal with but there was a ton of BS going on toward the end.

I found this place by googling "old sportsnet community new forum" and conducting an exhaustive search.

A good way to stir up some new members might be to find a way to get this board on the first page of a google search when someone searches something along those lines?

He smells.

Over a month later - LOL...

I should check this forum once in a while...

Yes I do (you've talked to my family?), probably more than Pouz, but I leave the premises when I smell...unlike him... Angry
Why is common sense not so common?
