The Stockton Heat
#21
Rittich Ties league lead in shutouts with 37 saver performance against San Diego last night!

Klimmer provides some offence with 2 goals (including a shorty) in the 4-0 win, the second half of a back to back.

Good effort boys!

The Stockton Heat started their own road trip with a 4-0 shutout (Gillies) against the San Jose Barracudas. Marko and Big Rig Smith had 2 points each and another aspiring RW, Austin Carroll scored his first of the season. Yes it seems the kids are all right.

And don't look now, but Mangiapane is leading the club in scoring (tied with Vey) with 17 points (6G 11A) in 19 games.

Anybody else notice that the Flames picked up a young RD, Kayle Doetzel 6'3" 205 lbs. after he was released in camp by the Oilers? This Rosetown, Saskatchewan (hmmm, where I have heard that before) boy has played in 16 games with the Heat with zero goals and assists, but a steady plus 5.

Great article by Wes Gilbertson on the Stockton Heat's rookie goaltender that is leading the AHL this year. And no it is not John Gillies (although he ain't half bad either!). No, this is about David Rittich who seems to have some Patrick Roy and Billy Smith about him!

I am all for a goalie like Billy Smith.., but if he's got any Patrick Roy in him, he can go back to Europe now.

Gillies follows it up in the next game, also against the San Diego Gulls, with a 48 save performance as the Heat win 3-1!

Interesting that Tom McCollum has been recalled to the Heat (Dec.7) and has played in 1 game (39.54 minutes), was credited with the win for a GAA of 1.50 and SV% of 0.950. Interesting because the Heat are carrying three goalies and the other two Rittich (1.65 GAA, 0.941 SV%) and Gillies (2.73 GAA, 0.916 SV%) have been lights out this year. Interesting because as we all know carrying three goalies is a recipe for failure. Interesting because the CHAD has outplayed the Moose and interesting because the Flames are putting the Moose in tonight to see where he's at. Interesting because despite the recent success of the Flames its apparent we're a couple of pieces short at the Forward and Defense positions.

The Heat win their first two games of the new year with Rittich and Jankowski leading the way.

Good article with comments on a number of players. If you ask me (I know one of you did!), Rittich is NHL ready and is ahead of Gillis in that regard. Makes one wonder if Elliott might become trade bait if the Flames drop out of the hunt.

Interesting to note that Andersson & Wotherspoon are way ahead of the rest of the team in +/-
