Game Thread: Arizona @ Vancouver, 1/4/17

The Canucks go for their fifth win in a row tonight as they host the powerhouse Arizona Coyotes.

After being in a tie for first overall before the beginning of the season, the Coyotes have had a minor slump and find themselves a mere 15 points out of a wild card spot.  Their goal differential to date is -39, an impressive number considering they have played only 37 games to date.  Their offensive leader is popular ex-Canuck (read into that what you will) Radim Vrbata, with 9 G, 15 A in 37 GP.  Expected to start in goal tonight is Mike Smith, who in his one game against Vancouver this year racked up a 8.95 GAA and .765 SV%.

Alex Burrows is expected to slot back into the lineup tonight, moving Anton Rodin back into the press box.  New acquisition Reid Boucher is arriving today, but won't play.  Ryan Miller will start in goal.

It'll be the Coyotes first game of 2017, so let's hope the boys in blue help them celebrate in proper style!

Puck drops at 7 PM (SNET).

Go Canucks Go!

What a rush by Tram Car with a huge slapper that Smith had no idea where it was. That smooth skating out of his own end, big strides and before you know it he's over the opposition blue line with a huge slapper. This guy is going be a good player for a LONG time.

Savary's funny Guddy thread got me interested again. Wink

Couldn't believe I read something in this forum that didn't just dementor the life out of me.

Have a Belgian Monk ale on me, Mr. Sav.

The day he was benched I wrote in that thread that I support Willie for doing that. The Cheese was Raymonding around the rink with the hands of a Mason until he was benched.

Nicky you just created a new term "Raymonding".  i had to steal it to reply.

I LOVE our defense. I don't want to see anyone traded. Good teams are built on the back end. Our winning streak coincides with the return of Tanev and Edler. When you add 2 top 4 d-men into your lineup then good things happen.

I never get the desire to trade sure things for magic beans. especially Dmen

1 out of 3 first rounders turns into a useful NHLer.

The drafting is good. You keep Tanev. He's the Ohly of the future--in terms of stability and teaching the young'uns
