The story of the 2017 National Championship game was the officiating, with phantom foul after phantom foul. Ironically, one whistle the refs didn’t blow, very well might have screwed Gonzaga out their first title.
With under a minute left, UNC’s Kennedy Meeks went to the floor in a scramble for the basketball that resulted in a jump ball. With the ref standing right over the play, Meek’s entire hand out-of-bounds was missed.

Ref staring at Kennedy Meeks blatantly out of bounds. Carolina ball. No biggie.

The jump ball call gave the possession back to UNC, with the Heels scoring and moving their lead from 1 to 3 points.
Gonzaga never recovered.

MDMN, there were a TON of calls not made last night, most were to the benefit of Gonzaga. The airball three that went out, initially called UNCs ball, overturned and given to Gonzaga and they hit a three... yeah... no player from Carolina touched the ball.

So, let's play the game of what should have happened.

-3 points to Gonzaga (they hit a three after the incorrect overturned call)
+3 points max on the call above

4:47 Jordan Mathews missed Three Point Jumper. 57 - 59
4:47 Theo Pinson Block. 57 - 59 <- Didn't happen
4:47 Gonzaga Offensive Rebound. 57 - 59 <- Ball out of bounds
4:39 Nigel Williams-Goss made Three Point Jumper. Assisted by Jordan Mathews. 60 - 59

It's a good thing Carolina recovered from that bad call... oh, wait, they did.

On top of that, there was 50 seconds left in the game, they had a defensive opportunity to stop Carolina, didn't and were down by 3, then Williams-Goss missed his jumper, the refs didn't do anything to Gonzaga, they choked in the last minute.

I found this year's tournament to be pretty weak. Some real ugly games by high seeds, questionable officiating, and the poor quality of online streams were frustrating to deal with. Really wish NCAA.com would let international viewers stream on their website.

I thought the final 4 was, at least by the teams, played at a high competition level. Defenses were pretty darn good.

I'll leave the officiating out of it.

The one year I didn't pick the Tar Heels to win in my bracket & they go all the way...how fitting! Laugh Wink

Nice to see the Tar Heels back on the mountain top once again Happy Nice run by the Zags tho.

I had, in my final 4

Nova, Purdue, West Virginia, and UNC

I had UNC v Nova in the final

I had UNC winning.

Honestly, UNC is the ONLY thing about my bracket that I got right this year...
