SC Playoff Game #3 - 8pm MDT

I find myself reluctant to write the game thread this morning. I guess I am still pissed off/upset/out of sorts about Saturday Night. When Monahan scored I felt we had it won, all wrapped up, just had to hang on til time ran out. Only they didn't hang on. They got scored on with the goalie pulled, something that rarely happens to the Flames.

And then, seconds after Chucky set up Frodo for what should have been the winning shot, McKinnon flies down the right side and buries it. And buries a stake in my heart at that point. So I am disappointed in the result.  Yes it's only game #2. Yes they took McKinnon and company to OT, but somehow I expect my heroes to go undefeated. Well, that's not gonna happen, and this should be a wake up call for the team and the fans.

I listen to the boyz on FAN960 critique TJ Brodie's play, and decide that Andersson is a better match for Gio on the first pair, and that Brodie was better served playing 17 minutes on the 3rd pair than the 24 minutes he got last game. I cant disagree with that, but the question of who is a good 3rd pairing with TJ is a good one. Is it Fantenburg? I think Prout or Stone might be a better match. Or Valimaki. I would like to see them get a chance, especially Vali, it's great playoff experience.

Playoff experience is what this team lacks, even Colorado has more. And our young guys are getting it in Spades right now. So now is your chance to show you belong in the big show, Boyz. Time to step up with your big boy pants and get the job done. Show them how you won 50 games this year. Game on, Flames.

Go Flames GO!

I had no doubt Peters would move Brodie down. I expect to see a more determined Flames team tonight.

Just saw this and thought it was pretty interesting:
NHL playoff teams: Hits per game

Penguins 45.7
Islanders 43.3
Sharks 43.3
Golden Knights 42.7
Bruins 37.5
Lightning 37.3
Maple Leafs 36.0
Capitals 34.5
Jets 30.3
Flames 30.0
Hurricanes 29.5
Blue Jackets 29.0
Avalanche 26.5
Blues 25.3
Predators 23.5
Stars 15.5

Didn't think the Pens would ever be so high, or the Blues and Preds would be so low.

Yeah..,
but the Pens picked up Gudbranson & some heavy forwards from Florida at the trade deadline

How many of the Leafs hits are legal & how many cross-checks to the head??

Dallas has a problem

So.., just to make Suity happy
We need both James Neal & the 1st line to show up in a big way tonight

Would be good if Bennett keeps up his strong efforts

So, the Flames are not the shy weaklings they are portrayed as, and are up there with the rock ribbed Jets.

Interesting that some of the hit parade leaders are sucking at hockey.

I think you are reading a little too much into those stats

A few Flames have thrown more hits per game than they were in the regular season

Hathaway
Bennett
Lindholm
Fantenberg
Tkachuk
Neal

Other than Hathaway & Bennett, most of these guys were averaging 1 or fewer hits per game in the regular season.  Right now, they are all average 2 or more.

Everyone else has between 0-3 hits

T.J. Brodie has 0 hits so far.  Unless you are controlling the play like Niklas Lidstrom, you can't play on the top pair & not throw a hit in the play-offs.

I agree, Avs at home will be fired up, need to survive the first 5 or so minutes, and settle into our game which we have not seen yet.

If the boys want to just watch McKinnon skate and our big line wants to play on the periphery we will lose . Disappointed in Monahans play . Can’t be soft at this time of year .

Well.., they are off to a good start

A full 2-minute 5-on-3.., it would hard for MacKinnon to not score

We were the better team until the 5-3 power play. That was a huge momentum swing.
