Will Ovie hit 60?

I'd like to see him catch Gretzky, if only to witness all the exploding heads. Grin

I'd be very happy for Ovie if he did that. That would be a phenomenal achievement.

Of note, Crosby has 1169 points.

Ovechkin has 1169 points (a few of them goal which some will say are pretty important).

What are the games played?
Crosby is still twice the hockey player Ovie is, and I love OVie

YES, OV will be sixty on Sept 17, 2045. Just 27 more years to go. GO OVEEEE!!!

60 goals? I hope so but if he only gets like 55, then he is still the best winger in NHL history.

On the wing, OV owns it. Sid could not do what he does there. Similarly.... etc. Apples and Oranges

I'm okay if people have favourites, like Lemieux over Gretzky, or Crosby over Ovechkin or vice versa....but Crosby is "twice the hockey player Ovie is" is a statement that needs to be backed up. You could be right, an argument could be made that Crosby is the better overall player but it would be by a very slim margin and not "twice" like you suggested.

They have the same amount of points at this point in their careers.  Ovie is a far more physical player, and Crosby, at some point, became a better defensive player.

Personally, I would take Ovie over Crosby, but then and again, I've never really liked Crosby all that much.

Ovechkin 1052 games played 1178 pts (as of today, regular season only) - 1.1 pts/gm
Crosby 909 games played 1173 pts (as of today, regular season only) - 1.29 pts/gm

With playoffs

Ovechkin 1173 games played 1295 pts - 1.12 pts/gm
Crosby 1094 games played 1333 pts - 1.29 pts/gm

So, it's pretty damn close.

Personally, I think Ovechkin's numbers are somewhat more impressive when you consider he has 643 goals compared to Crosby's 432.

depends who you want on your team...a playmaking centre, or a goal scoring winger.

How was Ovie's backchecking during the hattrick game last night?

He was on the ice for a 60% goal share at 5 on 5....

I still draft Crosby over OV 7 days a week and twice on Sundays.
Scoring goals is literally a fraction of the game.(the most important fraction mind you) It’s just as important to prevent goals, and OV is a cherry picker. Crosby plays in all 3zones, ovie does not.

I’m not discounting OV, he may be the best goal scorer of all time.
But if I’m building a team, I start with Crosby.

I will never understand the Ovie is a cherry picker logic or the idea that he's a liability in his owm zone. Couldn't be further from the truth

Pretty close? Put giving them the same games played using their PTS/gm, and there is a clear winner in terms of who's been more "impressive", and it ain't OV.

Same games/Goals
Crosby 500 goals
Ovechkin 643 goals

Same games/Assists
Crosby 858 assists
Ovechkin 535 assists

Same games/PTS
Crosby 1282
Ovechkin 1178

And that's on top of playing a better defensive game, the more difficult position, and the fact they didn't have a "Crosby setup" on the PP like Ovechkin has had his whole career...

Literally grab any stat line other than goals scored, normalize it, and Crosby is far more impressive. Starts from tougher spots, controls the puck more when on the ice,

Yes absolutely you are discounting him and anyone who's watched Ovechkin and not even closely would know he's a complete player who does way more than score goals.

Again I personally think Crosby is a better overall player, but that doesn't mean I have to make shit up about Ovechkin just to prove that Crosby is better; Sid's resume speaks for itself.
